Ability Enterprise Brings Intelligence to the Edge, Unlocking AI Potential Across Asia

News Center

To promote AI-driven industry transformation, Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) launched a dual-track model combining top-down themes with bottom-up industrial needs. Under this initiative, many companies have successfully demonstrated AI use cases. Among them, Ability Enterprise, a leading Taiwanese ODM, has developed edge AI cameras serving diverse applications across smart retail, transportation, and public safety.

A Pioneer in Edge AI

Ability specializes in the integration of optical, mechanical, and electrical systems. Its product portfolio spans from webcams to IP cameras, with a strong focus on edge AI. Powered by the Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ Toolkit, Ability’s AI cameras enable efficient development and rapid time-to-market.

Unlike conventional cameras, AI-enabled models are software-defined, offering customizable and scalable functions for various scenarios.

Enabling Real-World Use Cases

Edge processing enables Ability’s AI cameras to reduce bandwidth, accelerate response times, and lower reliance on centralized servers. For example:

Retailers can use them for customer counting, demographic analysis, and dwell time tracking—empowering data-driven business decisions and improving in-store experience.

Transportation agencies benefit from advanced features such as object detection, vehicle classification, license plate recognition, and illegal maneuver detection—critical for traffic control and law enforcement.

Strong Growth in APAC

Jonny Wu, Director of Imaging System Business at Ability Enterprise, noted, “The Asia-Pacific market is highly receptive to AI technologies, especially in smart city infrastructure. Governments in countries like Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia are actively investing in smart transportation, often collaborating with local system integrators to deploy AI-driven solutions for traffic management and enforcement.”

Expanding Beyond Asia: Mexico Deployment

Beyond APAC, Ability has partnered with VSBLTY to deploy AI-powered retail and smart city solutions in Mexico City. Their joint solution integrates crowd analytics, mask and weapon detection, license plate and vehicle type recognition, as well as public safety incident alerts.

The Road Ahead

Wu concluded, “As understanding of AI applications deepens across the market, we expect accelerated adoption across a wide range of industries. Education and integration support will be key to scaling successful deployments.”

To explore more, Ability will present “Edge AI Camera Applications for Smart Traffic and Parking Lots” at the June 30 online seminar, co-hosted by the IDB and the Institute for Information Industry (III), titled “Result-focused AI: Examples from the Field.”
